With new translations and Eurythmy forms
For every week throughout the year R. Steiner gave a special verse that would help us to understand our impulses better both within ourselves and in connection with nature.
Note to this translation:
Rudolf Steiner points out that in the Calendar of the Soul the weekly verses are, of course, based on thoughts but not on the “Thought-element” as is commonly seen in poems. Here of essential importance is the interweaving of the thoughts, the streaming sequence of the thoughts. He emphasizes that the emergence of a thought in a particular place, on a particular line is the most important thing in the construction of the verse. The verse has thus a mantric character.
“It is not all the same (or inconsequential) if a thought appears in the third or fourth line!” (8.29.1920)
The attempt has been made here to be as literal as possible, to follow not only the line sequence of the original but also, language permitting, to preserve the word sequence of the German. This becomes all the more crucial for those attempting to understand and practice Rudolf Steiner’s eurhythmy forms accompanying the individual verses.
